School Cafeteria Improvement Grants Funded 2015-16

The projects below were funded by the Whatcom Community Foundation with the goal of enhancing school cafeterias to increase healthy eating behaviors.

 Ferndale High School Cafeteria improvements including alternative seating options, microwave, charging stations, and sound system to enhance eating environment so students stay on campus for lunch

  Salad bar and small cooler for smoothie station

  • Promote Harvest of the Month in cafeteria, garden, and afterschool art & cooking club with Harvest-themed student projects
  • Install Harvest of the Month garden
Nooksack Valley School District
Nooksack Valley High Grab-n-Go breakfast kiosk to expand breakfast program
Bellingham Public Schools 
Columbia Elementary
  • Purchase a salad bar
  • Install noise reduction panels
  • Students develop cafeteria signage with artist
  • Cooking program with Common Threads
Parkview Purchase a cafeteria waste disposal station
Roosevelt Elementary Purchase and install noise reduction panels
Sunnyland Elementary
  • Install noise reduction panels
  • Cafeteria waste disposal station
  • Sound system for cafeteria
  • Install a handwashing station
Whatcom Middle School Purchase and install a greenhouse to grow food for school meals
